What is Mindful Self-Compassion?

Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) is an empirically-supported training program designed to cultivate the skill of self-compassion.  Based on the ground-breaking research of Kristin Neff and the clinical expertise of Christopher Germer, MSC teaches core principles and practices that enable participants to respond to difficult moments in their lives with kindness, caring and understanding.

  • Is a courageous attitude that stands up to harm, including the harm that we unwittingly inflict on ourselves
  • Provides emotional strength and resilience, allowing us to admit our shortcomings, forgive ourselves when needed, and be more authentically ourselves
  • Is strongly associated with emotional well-being, less anxiety, depression and stress, maintenance of healthy habits such as diet and exercise
  • Creates positive change naturally as we develop the capacity to be with ourselves in a kinder, more compassionate way

What can I expect from the 8 Week MSC training?

  • Program activities include meditation, short talks, experiential exercises, group discussion, and home practices
  • A direct experience of self-compassion
  • Learn practices that evoke self-compassion in daily life
  • A safe, supportive environment for any difficult emotions that may arise
Program Details:
  • Gain an introductory understanding of Mindful Self-Compassion
  • Learn how to motivate yourself with encouragement/kindness rather than criticism
  • Learn how to stop being so hard on yourself
  • Learn how to handle difficult emotions with greater ease and acceptance
  • Learn a variety of mindfulness and self-compassion techniques for home and everyday life
  • Learn self-care skills and how to manage caregiver fatigue
  • Learn how to practice the art of savoring and self-appreciation

Mindful Self-Compassion.ca is a joint venture between Cathy Morano MSW, RSW and Patricia Baigent MSW, RSW.  They are delighted to bring Mindful Self-Compassion training to Southwestern Ontario.

Our training features Cathy Morano MSW, RSW & Patricia Baigent MSW, RSW as professional facilitators.  Learning to become more self-compassionate can be a very deep and transformative experience; you can trust that you will be guided on this journey by facilitators who are experienced teachers and mental health professionals.

What pre-requisites are required for this 8 week MSC training?

No previous experience with mindfulness or meditation is required.

Participants are asked to provide background information as part of registration process.
